Welcome to June and the final push to the end of the year. I have been asked the same question by many of my friends and people I run into when I am out and about. They ask me, “Are you counting down the days?” I always answer that it is not a count down for me. This time of year is so busy and there is so much to do that it is tough to think of it as a count down. I also will be saying goodbye to our 8th grade class and those students becoming Messalonskee High School freshman. That is always a bitter sweet time as I am happy for them because they are ready for the added freedom and responsibility, but I will miss seeing them around the school.
So as we enter the final weeks of school we want to finish strong. Below are some of the things that you need to be aware of. Enjoy these last days of school and I hope that you will be able to spend some special time with your kids over the summer.
It is really important for everyone to vote on Tuesday, June 13 at your local voting location. The budget is tight but appropriate, and I would ask you to support with your vote. You can arrange for an absentee ballot if you can’t make it to your town on that day. For more details contact your town office.
Due to the weather we have been having, this has not been much of an issue yet but I wanted to give a reminder that shorts, skirts and dresses need to come down to mid thigh to meet our dress code. If a student violates dress code then they will be pulled aside by a staff member and asked to change. If you want to see the entire code then please click here and go to page 26 & 27.
Celebration of Excellence
We have two evening events for our Celebration of Excellence. This event recognizes students who are 6th graders and earned 195 experience points and a minimum of 4 scores of a 4. 7th and 8th grade students are recognized for earning 200 experience points and a minimum of 4 scores of a 4. Tonight we will be recognizing students with last names starting with A through K. On Wednesday, June 7th we will be recognizing students with last names starting with L through Z. Both events are at the Messalonskee High School (MHS) Performing Arts Center starting at 6:00PM. If your child qualified then you would have received a letter of invitation. If you did not and think that there is a mistake then contact your child’s teachers to check.
8th Grade Recognition Night
We will be celebrating the promotion of the class of 2021 to MHS on June 21 starting at 6:00PM in the MHS Gym. There will be extra space with air conditioning in the Performing Arts Center. We will also be trying to broadcast the event online for those who can’t attend. More details will be available on our website the week of the event.
