It is always refreshing to welcome a new year. I find that I can reflect on the past year and set my aspirations for the new year to come. It is also the time of year where each day has more sun than the one before it and although it is still cold and we have only just begun to get snow, I think of spring. I know … a little overly optimistic. Below are a few events happening this month and a list of dates you might want to watch.
We will be having an assembly this week where Jenny McGee will be visiting our school to share with our students. Her presentation focuses on digital citizenship and how to make good decisions around communication with others. Jenny is the Principal at Atwood Primary School and is one of the affirmative action officers for the RSU 18 school district. This is part of our ongoing focus to help students learn to handle social situations appropriately and protect themselves online.
Parent Informational Night
This year I have offered parent informational nights as a way to keep parents informed and get feedback from parents about events at MMS. These events were lightly attended in the past and so I moved them to Fridays that align with a Fun Night. This Friday, January 8, 2016 is the next event. The agenda items are to share the honor roll system we are using at MMS this year. I will also be asking those in attendance for feedback on the preferred way to communicate and involve parents in our school. Finally we will finish up with open questions and answers and requests for future meeting topics.
MMS 8th Graders Check out MMTC
On January 22, 2016, MMS’s grade 8 students will be traveling to Mid-Maine Technical Center in Waterville. This is an annual trip we make each year to introduce our students to the options they will have when they start attending Messalonskee High School. Many students take advantage of the programs at MMTC each year. If you would like to take a look at what they have to offer then click here.
