Hello all! I hope that you got some time to enjoy the wonderful weather we had over the Labor Day weekend. It was nice to have some more heat and sun, as I know that the number of days we will have those temperatures are limited.
We had a great opening last week, and I really enjoyed seeing all of our new students start their middle school experience, while we also welcomed back our former students. I am looking forward to an exciting and amazing year of learning at MMS.
I will be sending out information digitally this year. If you want to keep up with what is going on at MMS, then please follow me on Twitter (@PrincipalHatch) where I post the sports schedule each day as well as share photos and links to different events. You can also follow us on Facebook by liking our page at www.facebook.com/MessalonsekeeMiddleSchool . Facebook gets updated with all of my blog and twitter posts. My blog is called Messalonskee Middle Principal’s Blog. You can enter your email on the site and get updates sent directly to you when I make a new post to the blog. Finally, we are keeping our website up-to-date and adding new content every week so check us out at our site. We try to keep most of the information we post on all sites. This allows you to pick the medium that works best for you. We will also mail home a monthly newsletter to parents who request it from our office. This newsletter is designed to get information to parents who do not have email or internet access.
If you have not had a chance to update, sign and return your child’s emergency forms yet, then please do so at the beginning of the week. We want to make sure that we have current information for your child in the unlikely event of an emergency. You may want to also fill out and return the laptop protection paperwork. Students will be able to start taking home their laptops on September 8, 2014. They must first complete a training that is focused on acceptable use, care and how to be a good online citizen.
The fall sport parent night is September 11, 2014 at 6:30 pm in the cafeteria. If your child is interested in or is playing a fall sport, then this evening is for you. Mr. Lisa, our athletic director, will be sharing information and answering questions. For more information about athletics including game and practice schedules, go to our website and click on Athletics.
Finally, I want to thank our peer helpers for making the opening of MMS great. We had a group of 7th and 8th grade students join us on our first day with our new 6th grade students. They helped the teachers and the students as we started the year. Whether it was sitting and talking with a student who was sitting alone, helping opening lockers or creating a video of the start of school, they were there with enthusiasm and a helping hand. Thank you to all.
I will send out an update every couple of weeks so have a great few weeks.
