Messalonskee Middle School Band Concert – We had the first concert of the year last night and the Concert band and High School Band did a great job. You can hear some of their music on my blog. I recorded it with my phone so the quality of the sound is not nearly as good as they sounded in person.
Spooky Parade – MMS is keeping with tradition by having a Halloween Parade. At the start of the day we have all students who chose to dress up go to the gym and we assemble for a Parade through the school. It is sure to be a spooky time. Students are allowed to dress up but their costume must meet the dress code.
End of Quarter – I have gotten some questions about what happens at the end of the quarter. In the past this is when all things would need to be turned in or they would become 0’s in the grade book. Now that we are on a proficiency scale and we come back to things that students don’t get the first time, the end of the quarter is simply a point in time that says that we are 25% of the way through the school year. We are working on a report to be able to mail to parents as a progress report but it is not ready yet. To know how your child is doing, please log into Educate, send an email to your child’s teachers or call the teachers and have them get back to you.
Community Service – The MMS students and staff will be conducting our Annual Community Service Leaf Raking project on November 7th. We will be helping community members get their yards ready for the winter. This is a great program that is organized by one of our teachers, Paul Begley. The purpose of the project is to give back yo our community and help people who may have a difficult time with the physical process of cleaning up the leaves in their yard. Students come away with a better understanding of how it feels to help out a person who needs your assistance.
Parent teacher Conference Night – On November 21 we will have Parent teacher Conference Night from 5:00PM to 8:00Pm. We have a limited number of slots so if you are not able to get in on that evening the team will contact you to set up a meeting. Please call our office to make an appointment. We will be able to start taking sign ups next Monday, November 4.
Educate – There is a parent informational meeting on Wednesday, November 6, 2013 starting at 6:00pm in the MMS Cafeteria. The focus of this event will be to answer questions about the parent access to Educate (called Empower) and any questions you might have about interpreting the data. If you are having a difficult time moving around the program and understanding what you are seeing then bring your log in and password and come to that event. If you are unable to make it to that meeting then call MMS and ask to speak with Kim Fish. Kim is our technology integration specialist and will be able to schedule a time to meet with you and make sure that you can access the information.
A comment was made on my Blog and I have received some feedback from parents so I wanted to let everyone know the information.
1. Once you have gone to the website to activate your account in Educate you will be asked if you want to log in. Once you click log in you should be brought to the site pictured below (if not click here) and you will need to use the log in that was given to you during the activation process. It is not the Authorization ID.
2. When you log into Educate you will be on a screen that is dedicated to you. In order to see your child’s information you need to click on the drop down arrow next to your name and select the child you want to look at.
A few seconds after you click on the name the page will reload and you will see that learner’s data.
Hope this helps.
