Introducing the Customized Learning Page

Hello all!

I am excited to launch the customized learning page on the Messalonskee Middle Principal’s Blog. The purpose of this page is to begin sharing with the community the direction that RSU 18 is going. There is much discussion around the country and the state about the customized learning approach. I will be periodically adding information on this topic and how the changes we will be looking to make in the future will benefit all of the students at Messalonskee Middle School. To see the page click on the Customized Learning tab at the top of this page. Each new post will appear in the drop down menu when you click on the tab.

Random Acts of Kindness week is February 13-19. Did you know that random acts of kindness can help your mental health as well as relieve stress and that Positive Action Programs can improve behavior and test scores? For more information regarding this week, please check out the following website- there may be some ideas to use with your child or family.

To celebrate National Children’s Dental Health Month the Maine CDC will have a
FREE DENTAL CARE day at their Dental Center on February 18! Staff from the Caring Hands of Maine Dental Center are volunteering to provide free dental visits to any child from ages 0-18 who does not have a dentist and does not have insurance coverage. It’s necessary to make an appointment by calling 667-6789.
They have many volunteers and want them kept busy all day from 9am-4pm. Nicole Breton, RDH, BS – Public Health Educator -Maine CDC, Maine Oral Health Program -Tel: 207-287-3263 Fax: 207-287-7213

There is a 5th and 6th grade Fun Night at MMS on Friday, February 10 from 6:00pm-9:00pm. The gym will be open and there will be dancing in the cafeteria. If you are interested in helping out with this event, please contact our School Resource Officer, Dusty Woodside. Proceeds from the event go to our DARE program and our 6th grade class.

This quote came for the random acts of kindness site.

“Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend.”

-Melody Beattie

Have a great day!

  1. This website is great! Now that Middle School basketball (travel and rec also) are done, there is a lull between spring sports. Is there any intermurral activities afterschool for students who would like to continue being physically active? It would be nice to have an option to have them do an open gym for basketball, volleyball or badminton-etc. Thanks for your input!

    • Thank you for the question. We have a few options for students at this time of year. There is an intramural basketball program running now. As a matter of fact there is a game today. We also have a second winter season for swimming. The MMS swim season is in between the basketball and spring seasons so there is an option for students interested in staying active. I will share your ideas with Mr. Lisa, our Athletic Director as well. Thanks again.
